Irritable bowel syndrome(IBS) is a disease of the intestine. Symptoms include abdominal pain, cramping, bloating, gas, and diarrhea or constipation, or both. Other names for this disorder include mucous colitis, spastic colon, irritable colon, and nervous stomach. Some people with IBS have minor symptoms. However, for others, the symptoms are significant and disrupt daily life. IBS can cause intestinal damage in some cases. However, that is not common.
See your doctor if you have a persistent change in bowel habits or other signs or symptoms of IBS. They may indicate a more serious condition, such as colon cancer. More-serious signs and symptoms include:
-Diarrhea at night
-Iron deficiency anemia
-Persistent pain that isn’t relieved by passing gas or a bowel movement
Home Remedies for IBS:
Certain home remedies or lifestyle changes may help to relieve your IBS symptoms without the use of medication. Examples of these lifestyle changes include.
-cutting back on caffeinated beverages that stimulate the intestines
-eating smaller meals
-minimizing stress (talk therapy may help)
-taking probiotics (“good” bacteria normally found in the intestines)
to help relieve gas and bloating.
-avoiding deep-fried or spicy foods
Go on BART diet which includes Banana, Apple, Rice, Toast.
Foods to Avoid:
Eliminating certain foods such as fried foods, indigestible sugars, dairy may help to reduce symptoms.
